Capital Markets And Impact On The Office
The combination of rising interest rates, economic uncertainties, market volatility and geopolitical instability has put capital markets in uncharted territory over the past 24 months. Further exasperating this is the post pandemic return to office or lack thereof. Office vacancy rates are at an all-time high with existing and new product in addition to inventory in the sublease market. It is no surprise that larger metropolitan areas are feeling the brunt of the distress in the office market. However, all areas nationally have been impacted with less leasing activity and tenants or end users seeking highly amenitized and activated space, including many university research and innovation hubs around the country. This panel of seasoned CRE experts will provide an overview of what is to come in 2024 providing their take on how the Federal Reserve’s policies with impact the economy and market with plans on stabilizing inflation and interest rates, providing the landscape and sentiment on the office market and how developers are pivoting to navigate this ever-changing, interest rate sensitive real estate environment.

Research Parks and Emerging Global Competition: Tech Hubs Drive Demand for Government Funding
The heightened attention from national governments is prompting government leaders to leverage our innovation communities in order to expedite strategic competition in technology benchmarking. This shift is disrupting the traditional process of selecting research communities for government funding. Specifically, questions arise about how the US federal government is identifying and financing technology hubs with billions of dollars to enhance global competitiveness. Similarly, there is curiosity about Canada's approach to securing and sustaining its position as a significant technology player at both national and regional levels.
